What conditions might benefit from Microneedling with PRP?
Patients who receive Micro-needling treatments report improvements with:
How deep will the needles penetrate my skin?
The disposable ultrafine needle heads are completely adjustable. The doctor will make adjustments according to the area of your skin as well as the desired end result. For those seeking results with pigmentation, the doctor will use a setting which pierces just the outer, superficial layer of the skin (the epidermis). For those looking to soften wrinkles and deep lines, a higher setting is used which penetrates a slightly deeper layer (the dermis).
Please also note that we will begin the process slowly with a shallower depth on your first visit and work towards deeper micro-needling as we go. Most patients compare the sensation of this shallower depth to a facial waxing procedure.
Is there a difference between a “Vampire Facial” and a “Vampire Facelift”?
Yes. A “Vampire Facial” is the micro-needling process we have explained above and conduct here in our own office. A “Vampire Facelift” is a procedure in which PRP is injected directly into the skin, typically in areas where fillers would not be appropriate such as the forehead, around the eyes and cheeks.
Many feel the “Vampire Facial” (or Micro-needling with PRP) offers a more effective result than the “Vampire Facelift” which focuses on very specific areas. Micro-needling with PRP allows us to apply PRP to the skin topically, allowing the serum to evenly distribute across treatment area where the micro channels allow absorption into deeper layers of the skin. PRP’s growth factors go to work in these deeper skin layers, encouraging collagen growth as well as rejuvenation of collagen cells.
How long does the treatment take?
When you come to our office, we will seat you in the comfortable atmosphere of our IV Therapy Room where we will draw blood and begin the process of “spinning” it to create PRP. While you wait, you can enjoy a complimentary IV Vitamin Nutrient Therapy, which among other vitamins and minerals contains Vitamin C that will help hydrate and rejuvenate your skin. The IV will also include Glutathione which will brighten your skin as well as assist in the production of collagen. This portion of your visit will take approximately 45 minutes.
What is Microneedling with PRP?
Microneedling is a procedure using a small “pen-like” tool equipped with micro needles which create thousands of microscopic channels or “micro-injuries” over the patient’s skin.
These channels become a fertile ground for the topical application of PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) which contains hundreds of proteins called “growth factors” that stimulate healing, skin repair and regeneration. When combined with micro-needling, PRP stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin.
We will then guide you to one of our private rooms for your micro-needling procedure. This treatment will take approximately 15 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
We recommend a treatment plan of at least 5 visits for optimal results. We will space your treatments out over 2 to 4 week intervals, depending on the depth of the treatments.
How does the doctor obtain the PRP?
We will draw a small sample of the patient’s blood and place it in a “centrifuge” (a small piece of equipment that will spin the blood). This process will separate the platelets and the white blood cells from the red blood cells. The resulting combination of platelets and white blood cells (liquid plasma) combine to form PRP.
Is this the “Vampire Facial”?
While the term "Vampire Facial" is a trademark term used by the doctor who treated Kim Kardashian, the procedure itself is essentially the same.
Microneedling with PRP does involve drawing the patient’s blood. However, that blood is not directly applied to the skin as seen in the viral footage of Kim Kardashian on the television show "Kim and Kourtney take Miami". At Advance Medicine of Orange County, we will use your blood to create PRP which will take on a more golden or clear look. This natural serum will then be applied to your face during the microneedling session.
